What Is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful evidence-based therapy that helps you process distressing memories and heal from traumatic experiences.

EMDR helps to rewire your brain’s response to trauma, reducing emotional distress and improving overall wellbeing. It is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as an effective treatment for PTSD and is widely used for other mental health concerns.

At Dr Jo Gee Psychotherapy, our expert team offers EMDR therapy to support any individuals experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety and any other metnal health challenges.

How Does EMDR Work?

LeftFlower

EMDR therapy follows a structured eight-phase approach that helps clients:

  • Identify distressing memories and associated negative beliefs
  • Use guided eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation to process traumatic experiences
  • Develop healthier emotional responses and coping strategies
  • Reinforce positive beliefs to replace distressing ones

EMDR doesn’t require you to have detailed discussions about your trauma. Instead, it focuses on how memories are stored in the brain and helps to desnsitise emotional reactions and reprocess past experiences.
