What is relationship counselling in summary?

Relationship counselling is a type of counselling and psychotherapy that focuses on interpersonal relationships. It aims to help couples, families, or individuals understand and manage their personal relationships better.

This kind of therapy is usually provided face to face in either individual or group sessions by trained professionals. These might include counsellors, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and therapists. It is a safe, non-judgmental environment for couples to explore their relationship issues and gain insight into themselves and each other.

Through a combination of talk therapy, activities, and problem solving strategies, relationship counselling can help couples develop better communication skills. You can also learn to resolve conflicts more effectively ultimately leading to greater understanding and fulfilment in their lives.

Why choose Dr Jo Gee Therapy for your counselling?

Dr Jo Gee Therapy and her team are BACP accredited counsellors and psychotherapists located in Godalming Surrey. They offer a sympathetic, confidential and non-judgmental environment in which to explore any personal issues or difficulties you may have.

With decades of combined experience, they have an extensive knowledge base. They can utilise this to draw on a range of therapeutic modalities to suit your needs.

Whether you’re looking for short-term counselling to help resolve a specific issue or longer-term psychotherapy, Dr Jo Gee can provide the support and guidance you need. She understands that everyone’s life story is unique, so she will work with you at your own pace and on your own terms.

Currently we are looking to help more couples with relationship counselling Godalming and with it being so close to our clinic in Guildford it’s convenient to start the process.

What happens in a typical relationship counselling session?

In a relationship counselling session, the therapist will take a holistic approach to understanding the issues at hand. They will listen carefully and consider different perspectives to gain insight into the problem from all angles.

Each session may be tailored slightly differently depending on your needs and preferences, but typically they involve open conversation and active participation between the counsellor and both parties.

The therapist may also suggest activities or exercises to practise in between sessions, as well as provide resources and materials to help you understand the issues better. The key to any good therapy session is to set smart goals, both long and short term goals that allow progress to be tracked. Its important to approach it with an open mind and impart active listening so that your partner feels supported and that you are also able to air your grievances.

Contact Dr Jo Gee Therapy today

We always start the process with an initial therapy assessment, these last around 50 minutes at a cost of between £90-120 for the session. This is a crucial piece to the journey as it allows us to understand the situation in more detail as well as finding out what each party want to achieve from the sessions.

This then allows us to target the counselling to suit your needs, leaving out parts which may not be relevant or helpful. A lot of our clients use as an ongoing process as we offer a helthy, open environment that achieves tangible, long term results.

Therapy and counselling shouldn’t be seen as a last resort but often it is. Counselling is for anyone, and we should try to take that stigma away in society that seeking help automatically equals weakness. Get in touch via the booking form or call us today!
