Psychotherapy and counselling
Psychological therapy and counselling offer clients the opportunity to gain insight into their difficulties or distress, establish a greater understanding of their motivation, find more appropriate ways of coping and develop the tools necessary to bring about changes in their thinking and behaviour.
I work with you to explore an aspect of your life, personality or relationship, or help you reach your goals. I use a range of different evidence-based therapies and techniques, including cognitive behavioural, solution focused and mindfulness based cognitive therapy, helping you to explore your past, current or future concerns. I work with different modalities dependent on your needs and goals.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It incorporates an examination of your thoughts with a behavioural approach.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy - DBT is a therapy designed to help people change patterns of behaviour that are not effective, such as self-harm, suicidal thinking and substance abuse. The approach works towards helping people increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning about the triggers that lead to reactive states and helping to assess which coping skills to apply in the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings and behaviours that lead to the undesired behaviour. It is often particularly helpful for the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy - MBCT is a psychological therapy which uses traditional CBT methods and combines psychological strategies of mindfulness and mindfulness meditation. MBCT has been proven to be helpful to people with a range of issues, such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, chronic fatigue and insomnia. It is also recommended by NICE as a effective treatment for recurrent depression.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy - starts with a focus on the unconscious and past experiences, which may determine current behaviour, thoughts and feelings. This approach offers an opportunity for clients to explore what's happening at the moment - how you do things and the part you play in things, what has happened in the past - how the past can affect current feelings and thoughts and how you may best cope in the future.
Supervision - I am a UKCP accredited supervisor.
